Lyda Aponte de Zacklin has held a number of posts in the service of the Government of Venezuela in the field of education, consular and cultural affairs and in foreign affairs. She received a Ph.D in Spanish Literature from New York University in 1985. She was the Guest Editor for Translation,Volume XXIX, Spring 1994, of the Translation Center at Columbia University, dedicated to Venezuelan Literature. She is currently teaching at the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of the City College of New York and at Fordham University. Her essays has been published in Venezuela, Mexico and the United States. Lyda Aponte is a Member of the Board of Trustees, United Nations International School in New York, where she now lives.
