Ekbal Baraka is the chief editor of HAWAA Magazine, Egypt's oldest weekly for women. An editor, journalist, documentary filmmaker and author, she is a member of the Egyptian Press Syndicate, Women in Film, Egyptian PEN, the National Council for Women (Cairo & Giza) and the Egyptian Writers Union. She has written six novels, including Linadhal Ilahabad Asdiqaa (Dawn For The First Time) and Timsah Al Bahairah (The Crocodile of the Lake), and two short-story collections, as well as numerous articles rnging from travel writing to politics, Her weekly column appears in the AL AHRAM Newspaper. Ekbal lives in Cairo with her husband and two children.
