Alan Cumyn began writing poetry and short stories in high school. The award-winning author of numerous bestselling novels published his first novel for young readers, The Secret Life of Owen Skye, in 2002. It won the Mr. Christie's Book Award and the Hackmatack Children's Choice Award, and was shortlisted for the Governor-General's Award, the Ruth Schwartz Award, the Rocky Mountain Book Award and the Pacific Northwest Libraries Association Young Reader's Choice Award. His third novel for children, Dear Sylvia, will be published in April 2008. Alan lives in Ottawa with his wife and their two daughters.
