vivian demuth is a Canadian fiction writer and poet, whose work has appeared in literary journals and anthologies in the United States and Canada, including the Smoky Peace Press anthologies Nose Mountain Moods and The Boreal Factor. She is also the author of a poetry collection, Breathing Nose Mountain. She has worked over 20 years as a park ranger and fire lookout in the boreal forest of Alberta, where she hosts and annual Poetry on the Peaks event. In recent winters, she has lived in New York City, where she has taught art and creative writing and worked in an outreach centre for the city's homeless. In June of 2006 Vivian was awarded a Disinguished Service Award from Alberta Forestry for her courage in providing aid and emergency services to three survivors and one victim of a helicopter crash at Nose Mountain Fire Tower, where she spends a good deal of her spring, summer, and early autumn being part of the eyes of the forest.
