Damon Galgut was born in Pretoria in 1963. He is the author of the Booker-Prize Nominated novel The Good Doctor, is a playwright and author of several novels and short story collections and winner of the 2004 Commonwealth Writers Prize Best Book Award, Africa Region. His debut novel, A Sinless Season, published when he was just seventeen, was a literary success. His other novels include The Beautiful Screaming of Pigs, winner of the 1992 CNA Award, A Small Circle of Beings, and The Quarry, which was made into a feature film that won the award for Best Film at the 1998 Montreal Film Festival. His plays include Echoes of Angers, Party for Mother, Alive and Kicking, and The Green's Keeper. Damon lives in Cape Town, South Africa.
