Hiromi Goto was born in Chiba-ken, Japan, and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1969, eventually arriving in Alberta. Since publishing her groundbreaking first novel - A Chorus of Mushrooms in 1995, a regional winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book and co-winner of the Japan-Canada Book Award - she has released two further novels and garnered the James Tiptree, Jr. Award and a Sunburst Award nomination. Her latest is Hopeful Monsters, a collection of short fiction. Hiromi was recently Writer-in-Residence at the Emily Carr Institute of Art + Design.
