SANDRA GULLAND was raised in the turmoil of the ’60s in Berkeley, California, where she attended San Francisco State College and the University of California at Berkeley. After immigrating to Canada in 1970, she taught school in a remote Inuit village in Labrador before moving to Ontario to work in book publishing. She was at work on the Josephine novels for over a decade, travelling extensively to the places Josephine lived and corresponding with period scholars. Sandra Gulland lives near Killaloe, Ontario, with her husband.
