Dermot Healy was born in Finea, Co. Westmeath, in 1947. He has published a collection on stories, Banished Misfortune, and a novel, Fighting with Shadows, and he recently completed a new novel, A Goat's Song. He has written and directed a number of plays including On Broken Wings and wrote the screenplay for Our Boys directed by Cathal Black. He founded The Drumlin, a magazine, and now edits Force 10, a journal of the North West. Although he is best known as a writer of fiction, he has also been publishing poems for more than twenty years. He is a member of Aosdána and now lives in Ballyconnell, County Sligo.
