Seymour Mayne is the author, editor or translator of more than fifty books and monographs. His writings have been translated into many languages, including French, German, Hebrew, Polish, Russian, and Spanish. His latest collections include Light Industry, a selection of humourous and satirical poems, Ricochet: Word Sonnets and a companion volume, September Rain, and the bilingual Spanish edition of his selected word sonnets, Reflejos: Sonetos de una palabra. As a fervent innovator of the word sonnet, he has given readings and lectured widely in Canada and abroad on this unique new "miniature" form.
A four-time winner of the Canadian Jewish Book Award, he is also the recipient of the J.I. Segal Prize and the ALTA (American Literary Translators Association) Poetry Translation Award. A longtime resident of Ottawa, he has helped sustain the national capital literary community for more than thirty-five years.
He serves as Professor of Canadian Literature, Canadian Studies, and Creative Writing at the University of Ottawa.
