Atle Naess was born in 1949 and grew up in Askim, a small industrial community 40 miles east of Oslo. He graduated from Oslo University in 1976, and worked as a teacher of Norwegian until 1987. The first of his nine novels was published in 1975, and he has also written three books for children, a collection of essays and several other books.
