Helen Oyeyemi was born in Nigeria in 1984 and moved to London when she was four. While writing her first novel, The Icarus Girl (in secret from her parents), Helen sold her unfinished manuscript and signed a two book deal before she had even completed high school.
The Icarus Girl was nominated for the 2006 Commonwealth Writer’s Prize; and Helen was recently named one of 25 writers considered to be the future of British literature by the members of the U.K. book industry. She has a degree from Cambridge University and will begin her MFA at Columbia University in New York City this fall. She has also written two plays, Juniper’s Whitening and Victimese.
