John Stackhouse is a columnist and author of Out of Poverty (and into something more comfortable). As The Globe and Mail's development issues reporter, he was based in New Delhi from '92 to '99, but spent much of his time living with poor farmers, fishermen, lepers and slum-dwellers. He has been nominated for six National Newspaper Awards, and won the top prize in three different categories; he has also won a National Magazine Award and an Amnesty International prize. John lives in Toronto with his wife, photographer Cindy Andrew, and their two kids.
