Barber van de Pol is a novelist, translator and essayist. She is best known for her translation of Don Quixote in 1997. She has written two novels Er was wat met Meneer Maker & Mevrouw Maker (1998) and Kriblijn (2001) and two books of essays Cervantes & Co (2000) and Lieve Erasmus, (2002). Barber also publishes two weekly columns in the newspaper De Volkskrant and lives in Amsterdam. This spring she is a writer in residence in Montreal.
