Thomas Wharton was born in northern Alberta. His acclaimed first novel, Icefields, won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best First Book (Carribbean and Canada), the Writers Guild of Alberta Best First Book Award, and the Banff Mountain Book Festival Grand Prize. Salamander, Wharton's bestselling second novel, arose out of his life-long love of books and reading. Wharton lives in Edmonton with his wife, Sharon, and their children Mary and Conor.
