At Home In the World
with Mary Walsh
and Heather O’Neill

Hosted by Carleton University’s Susan Birkwood
"Heather O’Neill’s style is laced with so much sublime possibility and merciless reality that it makes me think of comets and live wires and William Blake’s “The Tyger.” Between prose like that and a story like this, you have a book that raises goosebumps and the giddiest of grins.

Don’t miss a special evening with two of Canada’s best storytellers. Get a taste of their new novels and join the conversation on how we are shaped by the adversity we face.

In Crying for the Moon , her brilliantly funny and poignant debut novel, actress, comedian and social activist Mary Walsh has created the unforgettable Maureen Brennan, a young woman coming of age in late 1960s St. John’s, Newfoundland

Heather O’Neill, the Canada Reads winner and two-time Giller Prize shortlisted author, returns to the Festival with The Lonely Hearts Hotel, a dazzling circus of a novel set in the seductive underside of Montreal and New York between the wars.

Books available for purchase at every event: Proceeds support our free children’s literacy programs.
