Call 613-562-1243 to book an author for your school. These readings are free of charge to the school. Readings and workshops at the Library and Archives are also free. As authors are booked this page will be updated with times and locations.

School visit times are negotiable: times given in this schedule can be changed to suit schools. Likewise, age ranges are given as guidelines only, not absolutes.

  • Gerald Caplan and Joan Baxter: The Betrayal of Africa
    Library and Archives Canada (grades 9+)

    An in-depth look at the history of Africa, the roots of the continent's current problems, and what the future might hold. Caplan and Baxter look at the economics, politics and society of the continent, tackling problems such as population, environment, politics, race, the AIDS epidemic, exploitation by the developed world, and what the Western world can or should do about it.

    Gerald Caplan is the author of Africa: a Groundwork Guide. The Groundwork Guides are intended as first introductions to our time's most compelling, controversial and important questions. In this book, Caplan covers the history, current issues, and possible future of the African continent in a clear and engaging way.
